The Fabulous Edie's Pet Photography Shoot at Griffith Observatory
Jun 14, 2018 | By: Diana Lundin
Edie is the pride of her two dads. Her dad Hersin contacted me in February about doing her pet photography shoot. The thought at the time was in front of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Urban Lights exhibit, a very popular attraction in L.A. Hersin and his husband Don were traveling in March, I was traveling in April, so we set May as our session date. And then they picked Griffith Observatory, which I love! Whenever I have out-of-town guests come, I always take them to the observatory. Great views, wonderful museum, outstanding architecture.
So off we went around 6, quite a spell before the sun sets. But we had quite a successful time. Edie is a very photogenic girl (as are her dads) and of course the views are fantastic. It's always crowded there but you just have to time your shots so you minimize or completely eliminate people from the background. And of course if you miss your timing a bit, there's always Photoshop. One guy in a fuchsia jacket just wouldn't get out of the way in from of the Astronomer's Monument so he did have to be removed in post-processing.
All in all, a good time was had by all.
Oh, one thing... as a public service notice, I must tell you -- if you don't already know -- parking is now $4 an hour along the road. And it seems like near sunset, they don't allow cars to go into the main parking lot. We saw many open spaces. But once the sun was down, they began allowing cars back up the road. I don't know why, but I'm guessing that people actually go to the observatory when the sun goes down for their star gazing. I surmise it's safer for people to park in the lot in the night time than having to walk down the hill to the parking along the side. Anyway, that's my good deed report!
