A Romp in the Park with Sailor

This was a really fun session for me, I must admit. Dad Dino was the high bidder of a pet photography session with me and because we live close to each other we decided to meet at one of the gorgeous Los Angeles parks near us for a late afternoon with Sailor.

Sailor is magnificent. We started off the session with her running. The sun was casting beautiful golden light and she just ran after the ball like a thoroughbred. We got several action sequences before moving on to some family portraits with Dino and his husband David. Now you never think you're going to need more light when the sun is pretty bright but that's usually exactly what you need so I set up one light to get a quick series. We got a few, then got some beauties with Sailor on the rock design elements. But Sailor's attention was really on some other little canines and it was hard to get her attention.

So we moved over to the forest section of the park. Not really a forest but it has a nice line of trees. Again we needed some light but just a little splash. We didn't want it to have a "flash" look, especially because there was still a lot of light outside, just enough to make the color and details come alive.

I put together a slideshow for Dino and David (shh, they haven't seen it yet) and I tried something new in Final Cut Pro X, a parallax view effect. The software splits the image into five pieces and they arrive at different times in the animation, making it look a little 3D. What do you think? Should I try it on others?

Here are some of Sailor's images and the slideshow. Ready for your own pet photography session? I know lots of great places in Los Angeles. Hit the contact button on the bottom and let's make some magic!
